Metabolomics
Metabolomics is the scientific study of the unique chemical fingerprints that specific cellular processes leave behind. It involves the systematic identification and quantification of the complete set of metabolites, which are the small molecules derived from various cellular processes, in a biological sample. In this context, mutation refers to genetic changes that can lead to alterations in metabolic pathways, resulting in changes to the metabolome. Thus, metabolomics can provide insights into how genetic variations affect metabolic processes and contribute to disease states or other phenotypes. It is an essential tool for understanding complex biological systems and has applications in various fields such as biomedical research, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and environmental science.
