Natural Satellite

Definition of Natural Satellite as it relates to Science, Astronomy, Planetary Science

Natural satellites, also known as moon(s), are celestial bodies that orbit around other planets, dwarf planets, and even other moons. They can vary greatly in size, shape, and composition, with some being large enough to have their own internally generated magnetic fields while others are mere kilometer-wide chunks of ice or rock. Natural satellites can provide valuable insights into the history and evolution of their parent bodies as well as offer potential destinations for future space exploration. They are a fundamental part of planetary systems, including our own solar system's collection of over 200 known natural satellites.
