Chess

Definition of Chess as it relates to Hobbies, Board Games, Puzzle Solving

Chess is a strategic board game that requires critical thinking and problem-solving skills. It is played on a square board divided into 64 squares of alternating colors, with each player starting with 16 pieces, including one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns. The objective of the game is to checkmate the opponent's king, which means the king is in a position to be captured (in "check") and there is no way to move the king out of capture (mate). Chess has been a popular hobby for centuries, and its complexity and depth have made it a favorite among puzzle solvers. As a subcategory of board games and puzzle solving under hobbies, chess offers players an engaging and challenging mental workout that requires both strategic planning and tactical execution.
