Mental Health

Definition of Mental Health as it relates to Health, Geriatric Health

Mental Health refers to our cognitive, behavioral, and emotional wellbeing. It is fundamental to our overall health and encompasses our ability to handle stress, relate to others, make decisions, and earn a living. Mental health is critical at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. In older adults, mental health is often referred to as Geriatric Health, which focuses on the unique mental health challenges that come with aging, such as depression, anxiety, and cognitive decline. Mental health issues can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, race, religion, or income level, and should be treated with the same importance as physical health concerns.
