Turntables

Definition of Turntables as it relates to Electronics, Audio Equipment, Recorders

Turntables, also known as record players, are electronic audio equipment used for playing vinyl records. They consist of a platter that rotates at adjustable speeds, a tonearm that holds a cartridge with a stylus, and a base or stand to support the components. The stylus tracks the grooves in the record, converting the mechanical vibrations into an electrical signal that is amplified and output as sound through speakers. Turntables are valued for their warm, rich sound quality and the tactile experience of physically handling and playing records. They can be standalone units or part of a larger audio system, and may include features such as adjustable pitch control, anti-skate mechanisms, and counterweights to optimize playback performance.
