Spiritual Development

Definition of Spiritual Development as it relates to Education, Religious Education, World Religions

Spiritual Development: The process of cultivating an individual's inner life and relationship with the divine, transcendent or sacred. It encompasses exploration and understanding of one's own beliefs, values, and sense of purpose, as well as an appreciation for the diversity of spiritual traditions and practices. Education in this context refers to the intentional facilitation of this process, often through formal or informal learning experiences. Religious education is a specific form of spiritual development that focuses on the teachings and practices of a particular faith tradition. World religions are the major religious systems and beliefs that have developed over time and continue to shape the lives of individuals and communities around the globe. Spiritual development, therefore, is the ongoing journey of seeking meaning, purpose, and connection with something greater than oneself, often informed by one's education, religious background, and exposure to world religions.
