Definition of Occupational Therapy as it relates to Education, Health Education, Health Services Administration

Occupational Therapy: A branch of healthcare focused on enabling individuals with physical, sensory, or cognitive impairments to engage in activities of daily living and achieve maximum independence through customized therapeutic interventions. These interventions are designed to improve functional abilities, develop new skills, modify environments, or compensate for deficits to enhance overall quality of life. Occupational therapists work collaboratively with clients, families, educators, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate optimal participation in meaningful activities at home, school, work, and community settings. This field encompasses education and training in anatomy, physiology, psychology, biomechanics, and evidence-based practice, as well as management skills necessary for effective collaboration and coordination of health services administration.
