Social Studies Education refers to the teaching and learning of disciplines such as history, geography, economics, political science, sociology, and anthropology with an aim to develop students' understanding of their society, culture, economy, and politics. It encompasses the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, attitudes, and behaviors necessary for active citizenship in a diverse and interconnected world. Social Studies Education at the elementary level focuses on introducing students to basic concepts, themes, and issues while vocational education integrates social studies content into career-oriented programs.
