Automotive Ignition Coils are an essential component in the ignition system of an automotive engine, responsible for producing high voltage electrical currents to create sparks that ignite fuel within the cylinders. They consist of a transformer with a primary and secondary winding that steps up the low voltage from the battery to thousands of volts necessary for igniting the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. The coil is typically controlled by the engine control unit (ECU) or distributor, which sends a signal to energize the primary winding and generate a magnetic field. When the current is switched off, the magnetic field collapses, inducing a high voltage in the secondary winding that travels through an ignition cable to the spark plug, where it jumps across the gap and creates a spark to ignite the fuel.
