Definition of Realism as it relates to Art, Surrealism, Dream Art

Realism in art refers to a depiction of visual reality as it appears, without embellishment or artistic interpretation. It emphasizes on the representation of objects and figures in a naturalistic manner, with attention to detail, lighting, and texture. Surrealism and Dream Art, while sharing some similarities with Realism, diverge from it by incorporating elements of the subconscious mind, dreams, and fantasy into their imagery. In contrast, Realism seeks to capture the world as it is perceived through our senses, aiming for a high degree of verisimilitude in its representation of reality.
