Expressionism is a modernist movement in art and performance characterized by its emotional intensity, bold colors, distorted forms, and emphasis on subjective experience over objective reality. Originating in Germany in the early 20th century, expressionism sought to convey the inner world of the artist, rather than merely representing external appearances.
