Definition of Art Mediums as it relates to Art, Expressionist Art, Figurative Art

Expressionist Art, originating in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, is a style of painting characterized by the artist's emotional and subjective interpretation of reality. It diverges from traditional European painting in its bold use of color, distorted forms, and exaggerated expression. Fauvism, one of the earliest and shortest-lived movements in modern art, is considered a subset of Expressionist Art. Its practitioners, known as "Fauves" or "wild beasts," used intense color and simplified design to express their emotional response to the world around them. Overall, the Painting Style category encompasses various artistic approaches to depicting reality through painting, including but not limited to Expressionism and Fauvism, that prioritize the artist's personal expression over objective representation.
