Daylighting

Definition of Daylighting as it relates to Architecture, Green Building, Green Roofs

Bioswales are specialized landscaping features designed to manage stormwater runoff and protect water quality. They consist of gently sloped, vegetated channels that collect rainwater from impervious surfaces such as roads, roofs, and parking lots. The collected water is then filtered through layers of soil and plants before it enters the groundwater or nearby bodies of water. Bioswales provide multiple environmental benefits including reducing erosion, improving water quality, recharging groundwater, and creating habitat for pollinators and other wildlife. In green building and architecture, bioswales are often incorporated into site designs as a sustainable solution for managing stormwater runoff and promoting ecological health. Green roofs can also be used in conjunction with bioswales to further enhance their effectiveness and provide additional benefits such as reducing urban heat island effect and improving air quality.
