Seahorses
Seahorses are small, marine fish belonging to the family Syngnathidae, characterized by their unique equine-shaped head and curled tail. They inhabit various regions of the world, particularly in tropical and temperate waters. Seahorses have a diverse range of species, with distinctive physical traits and color patterns. They are known for their unusual reproduction methods, where males carry fertilized eggs in a specialized pouch until they hatch. Seahorses play an essential role in the marine ecosystem as they help control population levels of small shrimp-like animals called mysids. Unfortunately, seahorses face numerous threats such as habitat loss, overfishing, and pollution, leading to their classification as vulnerable or endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
