Predators

Definition of Predators as it relates to Animals, Prey Animals, Carnivore

Predators refer to animals that actively hunt and kill other animals, known as prey animals, for sustenance. These animals possess characteristics and adaptations that enable them to be effective hunters, such as keen senses, speed, agility, and stealth. The term predator is often associated with carnivores, which are animals that derive their energy and nutrients primarily from consuming the flesh of other animals. However, some omnivores and even herbivores may exhibit predatory behavior in certain circumstances. Predation plays a critical role in maintaining balance within ecosystems by controlling populations of prey species and shaping the distribution and abundance of various plant and animal communities.
