Sea Life

Definition of Sea Life as it relates to Animals, Mammals, Whales

Sea life encompasses a diverse array of creatures inhabiting Earth's oceans, from microscopic plankton to gigantic whales. It is characterized by adaptations that allow survival in saline environments, often at great depths and pressures. Marine mammals, such as whales, dolphins, seals, and manatees, are warm-blooded, air-breathing mammals that returned to the sea millions of years ago. They possess specialized features like flippers or flukes for movement, blubber for insulation, and live birth. Sea life also includes a vast variety of fish species, invertebrates like crustaceans, mollusks, echinoderms, and cnidarians, as well as plants such as kelp and seagrasses. Each organism contributes to maintaining the delicate balance of marine ecosystems, which are crucial for global biodiversity.
