Insectivorous Bats
Insectivorous bats, also known simply as microbats, are small to medium-sized bats that primarily feed on insects. They belong to the order Chiroptera and make up the suborder Microchiroptera. These nocturnal creatures use echolocation to navigate and locate their prey, which includes moths, beetles, flies, and other flying insects. Insectivorous bats are found worldwide and play a crucial role in controlling insect populations. They are characterized by their small body size, furred bodies, and wings made of membrane stretched between elongated fingers. Some species of insectivorous bats also consume small quantities of fruit, nectar, or blood, but the majority rely on insects as their primary food source.
