Earthworms
Earthworms are segmented, cylindrical animals belonging to the phylum Annelida and class Oligochaeta. They inhabit soil environments worldwide and play a crucial role in decomposing organic matter and improving soil structure through their burrowing activities. Earthworms possess a unique circulatory system with five pairs of hearts and a closed blood vessel network, allowing for efficient oxygen transport throughout the body. Additionally, they have sensory organs such as setae and prostomium that aid in movement and perception of their surroundings. Despite common misconceptions, earthworms are not insects or spiders but rather a distinct group of animals with their own unique characteristics and behaviors.
