Insectivores
Definition of Insectivores as it relates to Animals, Insects, Mammals
Insectivores are mammals characterized by their primary diet consisting of insects and other small invertebrates. These creatures have evolved specialized adaptations to aid in hunting and consuming their prey, such as elongated snouts, sharp teeth, and quick reflexes. Insectivores can be found on every continent except Antarctica and are diverse in size, shape, and behavior, with examples including shrews, moles, hedgehogs, tenrecs, and the aardvark. Despite their name, not all insectivorous mammals fall under this category, as some birds and reptiles also primarily consume insects.
