Invasive Species

Definition of Invasive Species as it relates to Animals, Endangered Species, Species Extinction

Invasive Species: A non-native species whose introduction causes, or is likely to cause, economic or environmental harm or adversely affects human health. These organisms often thrive in their new environments due to lack of natural predators and competition with native species. They can lead to the endangerment and extinction of local flora and fauna, disrupting ecosystems and causing significant biodiversity loss. Examples include the Brown Tree Snake in Guam, Zebra Mussels in the Great Lakes, and Cane Toads in Australia.
