Edge Computing

Definition of Edge Computing as it relates to Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning, Internet of Things

Edge computing refers to computations that are performed near the source of the data, as close as possible to where it is generated and consumed. By processing data closer to where it is created instead of transmitting it to a centralized data-processing warehouse such as a cloud, edge computing addresses issues like latency, bandwidth, and cost. It is especially beneficial for Internet of Things (IoT) applications since IoT devices generate massive amounts of data. Edge computing can enhance IoT systems by allowing real-time analytics, reducing the dependency on network connectivity and central servers, improving security, and decreasing costs associated with data transmission and storage. By employing artificial intelligence and deep learning techniques at the edge, it is possible to make faster, more informed decisions, enabling a wide range of use cases like autonomous vehicles, smart cities, industrial automation, and augmented reality.
