Ticks are small, blood-sucking arachnids belonging to the order Ixodida. They parasitize a wide range of hosts including mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians. Ticks have four stages in their life cycle: egg, larva, nymph, and adult. Larvae and nymphs are called seed ticks and they feed on small animals while adults prefer larger ones. They can transmit various diseases such as Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and anaplasmosis to their hosts through their saliva. Ticks are also known for their ability to detect and attach themselves to a host using sensory organs called Haller's organs located on their first pair of legs. They are found in various habitats worldwide and can be a nuisance and health concern for both humans and animals.
