Eared Seals

Eared seals are a group of marine mammals characterized by external ear flaps, known as pinnae, which distinguish them from other seal species. They belong to the family Otariidae and are further classified into two subfamilies: the sea lions (Otariinae) and fur seals (Arctocephalinae). Eared seals are known for their agility in water and on land, as well as their ability to rotate their hind flippers forward for efficient movement on land. They are carnivorous predators that primarily feed on fish, squid, and crustaceans. Eared seals are found in various coastal and offshore regions around the world, with populations inhabiting both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
