Carnatic Music
Carnatic music is a form of classical music that originated in the southern regions of India, particularly in the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka. It is known for its complex melodic and rhythmic patterns, as well as its emphasis on improvisation and intricate ornamentation. Carnatic music is traditionally performed by a vocalist accompanied by instruments such as the violin, mridangam (double-headed drum), ghatam (clay pot), and veena (stringed instrument). The lyrics of Carnatic music are usually in Sanskrit or Tamil and often explore themes of devotion and spirituality.
