Tropocollagen

Tropocollagen is a precursor molecule to collagen, consisting of three polypeptide chains that form a triple helix structure. It is a key component of the extracellular matrix in connective tissues, providing strength and structure to skin, tendons, ligaments, and bones. Tropocollagen molecules are further assembled into fibrils, which then organize into larger collagen fibers. This process is essential for maintaining the integrity and elasticity of various tissues throughout the body.
