Tequistlatecan Languages

The Tequistlatecan languages are a group of closely related indigenous languages spoken in the southern region of Mexico. These languages are characterized by complex verbal morphology, a lack of grammatical gender, and a rich inventory of consonant and vowel sounds. Some of the languages in this group include Chontal, Highland Chontal, and Lowland Chontal. Speakers of Tequistlatecan languages are primarily found in the states of Oaxaca and Tabasco.
