Synaptic Transmission
Synaptic transmission is the process by which signaling molecules known as neurotransmitters are released by a neuron at a synapse, the small gap between two neurons or between a neuron and a target cell. These neurotransmitters then bind to receptors on the receiving cell, known as the postsynaptic cell, triggering a series of events that can either excite or inhibit the postsynaptic cell. This communication between neurons is essential for the functioning of the nervous system and is involved in processes such as learning, memory, and motor coordination.
