Sympathomimetic
Sympathomimetic refers to substances that mimic the effects of the sympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the fight or flight response. These substances increase heart rate, dilate airways, and elevate blood pressure by stimulating adrenergic receptors in the body. Sympathomimetics are often used in medicine to treat conditions such as asthma, ADHD, and certain types of shock. Examples of sympathomimetic drugs include epinephrine, norepinephrine, and pseudoephedrine.
