Sumerian Civilization
The Sumerian Civilization was an ancient civilization that existed in Mesopotamia, in the southern region of present-day Iraq. It is considered one of the earliest known civilizations in history, dating back to around 4500 BCE. The Sumerians were known for their advanced writing system known as cuneiform, their sophisticated irrigation techniques, and their contributions to mathematics, astronomy, and literature. The Sumerians also built impressive city-states such as Uruk, Ur, and Eridu, and worshipped a pantheon of gods in elaborate ziggurat temples. The civilization eventually declined around 2000 BCE due to invasions and internal conflicts.
