Sumatran Elephants
Sumatran Elephants are a subspecies of Asian elephants native to the Indonesian island of Sumatra. They are smaller in size compared to other Asian elephant subspecies, with rounder bellies and more depigmented skin. These elephants have relatively large ears, which help them regulate their body temperature in the hot and humid tropical climate of Sumatra. Sumatran Elephants are known for their social behavior, forming close-knit family groups led by the oldest female elephant. They primarily feed on a variety of plants, including grasses, fruits, and leaves. Unfortunately, Sumatran Elephants are classified as critically endangered due to habitat loss, human-elephant conflict, and illegal poaching for their tusks. Efforts are being made to protect and conserve these majestic creatures for future generations.
