Strongyloidiases
Strongyloidiases refers to a group of parasitic infections caused by the nematode Strongyloides stercoralis. These infections can manifest as either intestinal or cutaneous symptoms, with the potential for chronic and recurrent illness in affected individuals. Symptoms may include abdominal pain, diarrhea, skin rash, and respiratory issues. Strongyloidiases can be particularly dangerous in immunocompromised individuals, as the parasites have the ability to multiply within the body and cause severe complications. Treatment typically involves anti-parasitic medications to eliminate the infection.
