Southern Sea Lion
The Southern Sea Lion, scientifically known as Otaria flavescens, is a species of sea lion found in the southern parts of South America, including the coasts of Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, and the Falkland Islands. These marine mammals are known for their large size, with males typically reaching lengths of up to 10 feet and weighing over 800 pounds. They have a sleek, streamlined body, external ear flaps, and a thick layer of blubber to help regulate their body temperature in cold waters. Southern sea lions are highly social animals, often forming large colonies on rocky shores where they breed and raise their pups. They are skilled hunters, feeding primarily on fish, squid, and crustaceans.
