Siltstones
Siltstones are fine-grained sedimentary rocks composed primarily of silt-sized particles, smaller than sand but larger than clay. They typically have a smooth, velvety texture and are often found in layers or beds within larger rock formations. Siltstones can range in color from gray to brown to red, depending on the mineral composition of the particles. These rocks are formed through the compaction of silt deposited by water or wind, and can contain fossils or other evidence of past environments. Siltstones are commonly used as building materials and in the construction of roads and other infrastructure.
