ShiaIslam

Shia Islam is a branch of Islam which holds that the Islamic prophet Muhammad designated Ali ibn Abi Talib as his successor and the Imam (leader) after him, most notably at the event of Ghadir Khumm. Shia Muslims believe that Ali and his descendants are the rightful successors to Muhammad, and uphold a unique system of leadership and religious practice distinct from Sunni Islam. Shia Islam encompasses a variety of beliefs and practices, including devotion to the Twelve Imams, mourning rituals for the martyrdom of Ali and his son Husayn, and a strong emphasis on social justice and resistance against oppression.
