Shellbacks
Shellbacks are sailors who have crossed the equator aboard a ship. This tradition dates back centuries and involves a ceremony known as the "Crossing the Line" ceremony, during which inexperienced sailors, known as "Pollywogs," are initiated into the realm of experienced sailors, or Shellbacks. The ceremony typically involves various tests, challenges, and rituals designed to entertain and amuse the crew while welcoming the newcomers into the fold. Shellbacks are considered to have earned their sea legs and are often proud of their status as seasoned sailors.
