The Second French Empire refers to the period of French history from 1852 to 1870, when Napoleon III, the nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte, ruled as Emperor of France. This era was characterized by political stability, economic prosperity, and cultural flourishing, as well as military expansion and imperialism. The Second French Empire came to an end with the defeat of France in the Franco-Prussian War and the establishment of the Third French Republic.
