Islam is a monotheistic religion founded in the 7th century by the Prophet Muhammad. Followers of Islam, known as Muslims, believe in the teachings of the Quran, the holy book revealed to Muhammad. Islam emphasizes submission to the will of Allah (God) and the Five Pillars of Islam: faith, prayer, fasting, charity, and pilgrimage to Mecca. Muslims worship in mosques and participate in religious rituals such as daily prayers, fasting during the month of Ramadan, and the annual pilgrimage to Mecca known as Hajj. Islam is the second-largest religion in the world, with over a billion followers worldwide.
