Red Giant Star
A red giant star is a luminous giant star that is in a late stage of stellar evolution. These stars have exhausted the hydrogen fuel in their cores and have expanded and cooled, causing them to appear red in color. Red giant stars have a much larger radius than main sequence stars, and are typically thousands of times more luminous. They are known for their instability and may eventually shed their outer layers to form a planetary nebula.
