Puritan Spirituality
Puritan Spirituality refers to the religious beliefs and practices of the Puritans, a group of English Protestants who sought to reform the Church of England in the 16th and 17th centuries. Puritan spirituality emphasized the importance of personal piety, individual conscience, and a strict adherence to biblical principles. Puritans believed in the concept of predestination, the idea that God had already chosen who would be saved and who would be damned. They also placed a strong emphasis on hard work, thrift, and self-discipline as a means of demonstrating one's faith and earning God's favor. Prayer, meditation, and regular study of the Bible were central to Puritan spiritual life, as was the belief in the presence of God in all aspects of daily life. Puritan spirituality continues to influence Protestant Christianity to this day.
