Petrology

Petrology is the branch of geology that focuses on the study of the origin, composition, structure, and classification of rocks. It involves examining the various processes that lead to the formation of rocks, including igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic processes. By analyzing the mineral composition, texture, and overall characteristics of rocks, petrologists are able to gain insights into the geological history and conditions that shaped the Earth's crust.
