Peritoneum
The peritoneum is a serous membrane that lines the abdominal cavity and covers the abdominal organs. It consists of two layers, the parietal peritoneum which lines the abdominal wall, and the visceral peritoneum which covers the abdominal organs. The peritoneum helps to support and protect the abdominal organs, as well as provide a lubricated surface for movement within the abdominal cavity. It also plays a role in immune responses and the absorption of nutrients.
