Painted Turtle

The painted turtle is a species of freshwater turtle native to North America. It is known for its distinctive red and yellow markings on its neck, legs, and shell. Painted turtles have a smooth, olive-colored carapace (shell) with red and yellow stripes, and their plastron (underside of shell) is yellow with dark markings. They have webbed feet and are excellent swimmers. Painted turtles are omnivores, feeding on a variety of aquatic plants, insects, and small fish. They are commonly found in ponds, lakes, and slow-moving streams throughout their range.
