Paddlefishes
Paddlefishes are a family of primitive cartilaginous fishes characterized by their long, paddle-shaped rostrum (snout) that is lined with sensory organs used to detect prey. They have smooth, scaleless bodies and a heterocercal tail fin, with the upper lobe being larger than the lower lobe. Paddlefishes are primarily filter feeders, using their specialized gill rakers to strain plankton and small invertebrates from the water. They are found in freshwater rivers and lakes in North America and Asia.
