Operation Overlord
Operation Overlord refers to the codename for the Allied invasion of Normandy during World War II. This military operation, which began on June 6, 1944, was the largest seaborne invasion in history and marked the start of the liberation of German-occupied Western Europe. Led by General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Operation Overlord involved the coordinated efforts of thousands of troops, aircraft, and naval vessels to establish a foothold in France and ultimately defeat the Axis powers.
