Neoclassicism Art History
Neoclassicism Art History refers to the artistic movement that emerged in the late 18th century, drawing inspiration from classical Greek and Roman art and culture. Characterized by a return to classical forms and ideals, Neoclassical artists sought to emulate the style and subject matter of ancient art while infusing it with their own contemporary perspective. This artistic movement emphasized simplicity, clarity, and order, rejecting the excesses of the preceding Rococo style. Neoclassical artworks often featured themes of heroism, virtue, and patriotism, reflecting the intellectual and political ideals of the Enlightenment period. Prominent Neoclassical artists include Jacques-Louis David, Angelica Kauffman, and Antonio Canova.
