Meteorite StonyIrons

Meteorite StonyIrons are a type of meteorite that contain roughly equal amounts of silicate minerals (such as olivine and pyroxene) and metal alloys (such as nickel-iron). They are unique in that they are a combination of both stony and iron meteorites, exhibiting characteristics of both. This type of meteorite is thought to have formed at the core-mantle boundary of differentiated asteroids or possibly at the boundary between the metal core and silicate mantle of a disrupted planetary body. Meteorite StonyIrons are relatively rare compared to other types of meteorites, making up only a small percentage of observed falls.
