Maternal Mortality

Maternal Mortality refers to the death of a woman while pregnant or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy, irrespective of the duration and site of the pregnancy, from any cause related to or aggravated by the pregnancy or its management. It is a critical indicator of the overall health and well-being of women, reflecting disparities in access to quality healthcare, socioeconomic factors, and structural inequalities. Maternal mortality rates vary widely across regions and countries, with complications during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period being the leading causes of maternal deaths globally. Reducing maternal mortality is a key goal of public health efforts to improve maternal health outcomes and ensure the right to safe and respectful maternity care for all women.
