Limestone

Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed mainly of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) in the form of mineral calcite. It often contains fossilized marine organisms and varying amounts of clay, silt, and sand. Limestone can range in color from white to gray to brown, depending on impurities present during formation. It is commonly used in construction, as a building material, and in the production of cement, glass, and agricultural lime. Limestone is also a key ingredient in many chemical and industrial processes.
