Intaglio Printmaking
Intaglio Printmaking is a traditional printmaking technique where an image is incised into a surface, typically a metal plate, creating recessed areas that hold the ink. The plate is then inked and wiped clean, leaving ink only in the incised lines. A damp piece of paper is placed on top of the plate and run through a press, transferring the ink from the plate to the paper. This process allows for fine detail and rich tones in the final print. Common intaglio techniques include etching, engraving, drypoint, and aquatint.
