Homologous Recombination

Homologous recombination is a type of genetic recombination where two similar or identical DNA molecules exchange genetic information, resulting in a new combination of alleles. This process occurs during meiosis and DNA repair, and involves the alignment of homologous sequences followed by strand exchange and DNA synthesis. Homologous recombination plays a crucial role in maintaining genetic diversity and repairing damaged DNA in organisms.
